SUSTAINABLE
SUPPLY CHAIN

Moving together towards CO2-neutral logistics

MAKING THE
DIFFERENCE TOGETHER

Genuine commitment

As a cooperative, NPRC is active for and because of its members. The interests and the support of its members, as well as its employees and customers, are always our main focus. At NPRC, we work together and look out for each other. This is how we try to inspire and facilitate our members and clients to make the transition to new fuels and make the supply chain more sustainable. After all, a sustainable supply chain is something that we can only create together. Internally, NPRC also focuses on sustainability and promotes electric transport for its employees. Many colleagues make the conscious decision to cycle to work and we have started a sustainable purchasing policy.

Since converting to a marinized Stage V Euro 6 DAF engine, my gas oil consumption has dropped by no less than 30%. That also means 30% less CO2 emissions – something that I am very proud of. Thanks to the subsidy scheme, it is possible for small ships to go green too.

EMISSIONS-FREE
INLAND SHIPPING
BY 2050

Sustainability is a matter of course for NPRC and is high on the agenda of our clients. Together with its members and supply chain partners, NPRC is looking for sustainable solutions. The WEVA project in which our member Harm Lenten is building a hydrogen-powered ship that will enter service in 2023 is a prime example of this. There are also plans to use hydrogen-powered ships for international transport along the Rhine-Alps corridor. In this way, we are working with our customers towards a future-proof and sustainable supply chain with fewer emissions.

With the construction of my hydrogen-powered electric vessel, zero-emissions inland shipping is getting closer. I am very proud that I will be one of the first to sail with zero emissions.

DIGITALISATION &
SMART LOGISTICS

Making CO2 emissions accountable

NPRC is a leader on the issues of digitalisation and smart logistics. Smart and efficient solutions make for satisfied customers, unburdened members and minimised environmental impact. As a supply chain director, we provide our customers with a total package of the most sustainable and efficient transport solutions. NPRC gives shippers insight into the reliability and sustainability of the supply chain by means of a dashboard. By participating in Topsector Logistiek’s CO2 monitor, we make emissions data more reliable. And with the new CO2 figures, emissions have become accountable. On top of that, with this research NPRC is contributing to the development of a CO2 monitoring standard in the inland shipping sector.

Together with Topsector Logistiek, NPRC has carried out a pilot project to make emissions data transparent. The conclusion is that the figures used are not representative for the NPRC fleet; measured emissions are in fact up to 28% lower.

SUSTAINABILITY CLAUSE

For the NPRC, sustainability is in our words and deeds. We help our members where necessary to make their ships greener. In our office too, we make every effort to work sustainably.
