Chartering a course together towards climate-neutral inland shipping

NPRC has published its first sustainability report. In this so-called ‘CSRD-light’ report, we share the results of 2024 and our ambitions towards climate-neutral inland shipping.

In 2024, NPRC has achieved an 8% CO2 reduction compared to 2023. This was made possible through the use of HVO fuel and investments via the voucher program, which enabled members to implement technical and sustainable improvements on board. Looking solely at fleet emissions, CO2 emissions per ton-kilometer are 32% below the sector’s standard benchmark!

In addition, the cooperative has set clear goals. By 2030, our offices will be fully CO2-neutral, and at least 20% of the fleet will meet the latest emission standards or be zero-emission ready. Projects such as ms Antonie and WEVA, the first hydrogen-electric inland vessel, demonstrate how innovation and collaboration accelerate the energy transition.

With the first report, we provide transparency on the steps we have already taken, where we stand today, the challenges ahead, and the steps we will continue to take together to further decarbonize the inland shipping sector.
