Ship.energy podcast with Femke Brenninkmeijer

The First Mover series puts the spotlight on maritime companies that were among the first to trial and adopt new fuels and technologies. In the latest episode, our CEO Femke Brenninkmeijer shares what it takes to pioneer hydrogen-powered inland shipping, with Ariane Morissey.

NPRC’s journey started in 2018 with a bold idea: using hydrogen, produced at Nobian, to fuel a 135-metre inland vessel and transport its salt from Delfzijl to Rotterdam. That vessel, Antonie, newly built and owned by Harm Lenten, is now sailing, but not yet on hydrogen. Engineering delays, regulatory hurdles and supply chain challenges have pushed back the transition.

Femke sees these setbacks as part of the process. NPRC is already working on two more hydrogen projects under the Dutch Maritime Master Plan, applying lessons learned from Antonie. Her message: being a first mover requires courage, motivation, and good partners and can help bring the sector forward. Antonie shall soon sail on hydrogen!
